We know it's been quiet on the news front since February but we have been busy behind the scenes working away. We've had a few more photo-shoots, a lot more development work and also continued our support for our Red Dwarf extensions such as PDS SQL Server, which is proving very popular. We are pleased to announce though that we now have the website for our forthcoming game online. [tm]At the moment virtually all of the website is open only to selected testers but over time more will become visible so please check back occasionally for news and updates.
| February 12th 2010 | Project Darkstar, RedDwarf and Zero Separation |
|
We were extremely disappointed by Sun's recent announcement that they were stopping work on the Project Darkstar project. We firmly believe that the project had immense potential and while already extremely useful only needed the completion of multi-node to become game-changing. Since the announcement we have been evaluating our options and activating contingency plans. We are pleased to announce that we intend to continue working with the new community RedDwarf Server and have authorised the use of some developer time in helping to administer and code review development work on RedDwarf. We hope that other companies using the technology will also do the same and try to contribute in at least some way to the project. It is important to remember that RedDwarf is already in a functional state as it stands and we will be able to proceed with beta testing and even launch even if no further progress is made on the server technology. Scaling with subscriber numbers will be more difficult but our contingency plans will cover that if necessary. This is not good news, it is a setback both for ourselves and for everyone else using or thinking of using Project Darkstar. However the server does work as it currently stands and with RedDwarf we are proceeding towards completion of multi node and then further advancement in the future.
| December 10th 2009 | PDS SQL Service released |
|
Work continues with a functioning website for our first game taking shape and all systems go for a release next year. We are also able to announce our first release back to the Project Darkstar open source community with a general-purpose SQL communications module for Project Darkstar. This should allow us to really integrate the game's website with the game itself. See http://code.google.com/p/pds-sql-service/ for more details.
| October 26th 2009 | Coming together |
| This has been an exciting month internally, with a lot of systems finally being plugged together and working well. My personal highlight was playing a number of matches ranging from 1 vs 1 through to 4 teams of 4 players each on our test server. There is still a lot of work still to do but we are very happy with progress so far. | |
